Weird stops worth pulling over for — the oversized, the handmade and the barely-signposted, across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Or describe the drive you're taking (“San Diego to Las Vegas”, “along Route 66”) and it finds what’s along the route.
Something you would pull over for, and would not have driven to on purpose. A muffler man holding a hot dog. A cabin built at seven degrees off level so the water appears to run uphill. A museum with one subject and one curator, who is usually also the person at the till. The kind of stop that is worth twenty minutes and a photograph, not a day and a ticket.
Deliberately not here: the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Disneyland. Famous places already have official sites, and a two-line summary of one helps nobody. Every listing below carries the practical part instead — what it actually is, what it costs, whether the parking is a problem, how long to give it, and whether it is still open, because a surprising number are not.
The directory grows when people search: ask for something that is not in it yet and it gets researched, written up and added, so the next person finds it already there.
