Tree in the Rock

This resilient limber pine tree has been growing directly out of a solid granite boulder since at least the 1800s. Originally noticed by Union Pacific Railroad surveyors, the tracks were detoured slightly to preserve it. Today, it stands as a unique testament to nature's persistence in the median of Interstate 80.
